Lagos Life is a free browser life sim by a Nigerian developer, inspired by The Sims 3 and a danfo game. What it is and who it is for.
What Is Lagos Life Game? The Sims Set in Lagos
Lagos Life is a free life-simulation game that runs in your web browser, set in a virtual Lagos, Nigeria, and shared live with tens of thousands of other players. You make a character, work shifts to earn in-game naira, pay rent every Saturday, and build a social life out of danfo rides, amala at Shitta, club nights at Quilox and NEPA power cuts. It launched on October 1, 2026 — Nigeria's Independence Day — and by October 6 it was being memed and livestreamed far outside Nigeria. You need nothing but a free account, and you must be 18 or older.
What Lagos Life actually is
The developer describes it in one line on the official site:
Official source: Lagos Life — "A Sims-style life game set in Lagos. Ride danfo, chop amala at Shitta, party at Quilox, survive NEPA — and make real friends. Play free in your browser."
Strip out the jokes and four concrete things remain:
- It is a life sim. Needs bars fall in real time, actions take in-game minutes, skills level up, and housing, work and money are the whole loop.
- It is multiplayer and persistent. Everyone lives in the same city at once, the homepage shows a live feed of player IDs, and the in-game day follows the real day rather than pausing when you close the tab.
- It is browser-first. Desktop and phone browsers, nothing else. The developer ships a web-app manifest — the "add to home screen" kind, not a store package.
- The money is fictional. The official terms say in-game naira has no real-world value and cannot be cashed out or transferred outside the game. Real money enters one way only: topping up the wallet, which buys naira you cannot withdraw.

Official promo art from Lagos Life: the world is deliberately crowded, because most of what happens happens around other people.
The terms require you to be 18 or older, one account per person, and no cheating or exploiting bugs. Roles like city governor are a game feature and can be revoked for misconduct.
Who made it and where the idea came from
The developer's own announcement, posted 6:11 AM on October 1, 2026, is the clearest explanation anywhere:
Official source: launch post by Shalom Rayhamen on X — "I grew up playing The Sims 3 and always wondered what it would be like if the Sims lived in a world inspired by ours. 🤷🏽♀️ Then I saw @eureka_seamless riding a danfo through Lagos, and it sparked an idea: Lagos Life Sims. Take a look around. Who knows, you might make a new friend in the Sims world."
It had passed 4.9 million views by October 6, 2026. The Sims 3 lineage in that post is explicit, and the closing line states the design goal: socialising with strangers is the pitch, not a side feature.
It is a solo project. The account displays the name Shalom Rayhamen; outlets spell that name several ways, so treat the surname as unsettled and read who made Lagos Life for the sourcing. Nobody pays you to play: the developer funds the game by selling advertising slots inside the world to real businesses, listed on the official advertise page. That is why real brands appear on billboards, and why that price list is worth re-reading.
The core loop, from character creation to a Saturday rent bill
Everything else hangs off this cycle:
| Stage | What happens | What it costs you |
|---|---|---|
| Create a character | Sign up, build your look, get dropped into one of two starting situations — Nepo or Lapo | Time, and the 18+ rule |
| Take a job | Work a scheduled shift at a Lagos workplace, mostly on weekdays; each shift pays in in-game naira, and skills and promotions raise the ceiling | Energy you refill by eating, plus hours of your day |
| Cover Saturday | Rent is charged every Saturday — the housing screen says so when you pick a place | A fixed weekly slice of everything you earn |
| Spend and build | Furniture, vehicles, land, businesses, side gigs, betting | Capital you could have kept |
Start with how to play Lagos Life as a new player, then read Nepo or Lapo so you know what your starting position is worth. The Saturday bill is the rule that shapes everything: rent is due every Saturday matters more than it sounds, and every way to make money comes once you are earning. One honest limitation: the developer publishes no public table of wages, rents or item prices. Those numbers live in the game's interface, behind a login, so this guide describes routes instead of repeating amounts nobody can check.
It is not Lagos Run
Two different games use the same city and the same yellow minibus, and search results mix them constantly. Lagos Run is a danfo-driving game by another developer, @eureka_seamless, posted on September 26, 2026: "I built a game where you drive a danfo through Lagos 🚌 Load passengers, dodge okadas, beat the traffic." Single-run driving, no character, no economy. Lagos Life is the multi-day life sim that came after it, where the danfo is one mode of transport in a city that also holds your job, your rent bill and your friends. Lagos Life vs Lagos Run sets them side by side.
Three checks before you decide
1. Zero friction to try it. Open the official address in any browser, make an account, play. There is no installer and no store listing, and copycat sites telling people to download a "Lagos Life app" are already circulating. The game lives at lagoslife.app, with lagoslife.eliysites.com serving the same application; any other lookalike domain — including parked domains such as lagoslife.com and lagos.life that are for sale and unrelated to the game — is not it. See do you need to download it and the verified official link.
2. Real people, not a populated-looking city. Chat, friendships, the governor race, visits to other people's homes and player transfers are all live. If you enjoy meeting strangers inside a game, that is the hook.
3. Content that only lands if you know Lagos. The landmarks are real Surulere and Lekki places, the food is the food, the NEPA joke is a national one, and the humour is aimed at Nigerians first. Outsiders can enjoy it, but expect to need context for much of the dialogue.
The catch on all three: this is one person's project on their own schedule. There is no changelog, no patch notes and no FAQ page — the official routes for those all return a 404, checked on October 6, 2026. Balance shifts week to week, so anything you read is a snapshot.
How big it is right now
Lagos Life publishes live counters, and they are worth reading carefully rather than quoted loosely. As of 01:27 UTC on October 6, 2026, the official public stats endpoint lagoslife.app/api/public-stats reported 50,706 players online and 2,108,141 players in total. Both are instantaneous readings the developer publishes about themselves, and the online figure swings hard — earlier the same day it read in the 90,000s. The homepage header showed a slightly different number at the same moment, because the two counters do not measure the same thing and neither is documented. All of it is self-reported, and a total-player count counts accounts, not verified human beings. Player count and live stats hands you the endpoint to check it yourself.
The homepage also carries one rotating weekly banner. As of October 6, 2026 it read "🎉 Owambe season is law this week" — owambe being the big Nigerian celebration parties the social content is built around. A different policy takes over each week with no official calendar to preview it, so this week's events has to be re-checked rather than trusted.
FAQ
Is Lagos Life free to play? Yes. The game is free, needs no download, and no purchase is required to finish it. Real money enters only through topping up the wallet, and the terms say that naira cannot be cashed out or traded outside the game.
Do I need to download an app? No. It runs in any browser on desktop or phone; what looks like an app is the browser's own "add to home screen" feature. There is no official store package, and any site offering one is third-party.
How many people are playing? The official counters read 50,706 online and just over 2.1 million total players as of 01:27 UTC on October 6, 2026. Both move constantly and are self-reported, so quote them with the timestamp or not at all.
