Where you live in Lagos Life decides your costs, your neighbourhood and how much you can save. How renting, neighbourhoods and moving up work.
Lagos Life Housing: Renting a House and Moving Up
Your address is the largest fixed cost in Lagos Life, charged on a fixed day: rent comes out every Saturday. It also decides what is a short trip and what is a day-long errand run — and the two priciest addresses cannot be bought at all, only moved into through another player.
Four things decide whether moving up is progress or a bigger bill:
- Rent is recurring. It shares the weekly bill with staff wages and other upkeep.
- Cheap districts sit far from the big workplaces. Careers sit at named spots with set shift times.
- Moving costs cash on the day. Better tiers want your money in hand before the first Saturday.
- The top two addresses cannot be bought at all. No button, no shortcut.
Rent lands on Saturday, and the bill shows what is left
The home picker sets the rhythm before you choose anything: "Where will {name} live? Rent is paid every Saturday." After you move, the screen adds one piece of good news: "All your furniture comes with you. Rent is paid every Saturday." A move is therefore not a rebuild from nothing: the only things it changes are the neighbourhood and the weekly number. That bill is a list, with rent itemised at the top under the name of your home, then staff wages and other weekly upkeep. Two labels sit on it, "Due today" and "Due in N days", and behind them the game keeps an arrears figure. A missed Saturday does not disappear, it accumulates.
What the game never gives you publicly is what each home costs. There is no official FAQ page, no guide page, no changelog, and the data endpoints sit behind a login. So this page compares homes by what you can see in game and prints no rent table. The rhythm is covered in rent is due every Saturday; the income that must cover it, in how to make money.
Official source: Lagos Life Terms of Service — the game is run by Eliy (eliysites.com); terms last updated 1 October 2026.
BusinessDay's write-up says it plainly: "moving to better neighbourhoods" is the progression, not flavour text.
What to compare before you pick
| Dimension | Why it decides your week |
|---|---|
| Weekly rent | Recurs every Saturday. The gap to your pay is your only margin. |
| Distance to work | Careers sit at named spots with set shift times; a bad pairing costs in-game hours. |
| What is within reach | Shops close early, clubs open late; the wrong address means commuting to eat. |
| Guest capacity | Each home tracks how many players it can host. |
| How you get in | Most homes are simply available. A handful are move-in only and never purchasable. |
Each home carries the game's own difficulty label, from "Hard start" through "Balanced", "Big spender", "Luxury" and "Billionaire". They rank what a home expects of your balance well; the amounts behind them are unpublished, so we print none.
A Nepo origin begins in a furnished Lekki apartment with rent covered — a huge head start here — while Lapo starts far cheaper. See Nepo or Lapo.
Which neighbourhood has what
The map clusters by area, and the cluster is what you are shopping for. This is the shortlist you will use week to week, not a full location list — the map is still growing and the official site publishes no place index, so we quote no count.
| Area | What sits there | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Mushin, mainland north | Entry-level room, shared courtyard | Lowest rent, longest run to island money |
| Surulere and Ikeja | Amala Shitta, Mama Bisi's Salon, Oga Sunday Viewing Centre, General Hospital, New Afrika Shrine | Food, salon, hospital, music |
| Yaba | CcHub | The tech careers |
| Lagos Island | Balogun Market, Freedom Park, the high court | Trade and civic errands |
| Victoria Island | Quilox, Marina Towers, Eko Casino, Ivory Rooftop, The Library | Nightlife and banking |
| Ikoyi | i-Fitness, the golf club | Fitness and status |
| Lekki | The Palms, Elegushi Beach | Mall, beach, weekends |
| Banana Island | Top residential address | The game's most expensive address |
Places keep opening hours in game, so a food spot across town is not the same errand as one on your doorstep — and a virtual day follows the real one, so a bad commute is time you cannot grind back in one sitting. Map and locations goes deeper; danfo covers transport.
How a move up actually works
You pay to arrive. Higher tiers want your own cash in hand when you move in — a one-off from savings, on top of the rent that starts the following Saturday. This is the step most players underestimate.
You cannot move twice at once. If you live at someone else's place, the game stops you: "You already live at @X's. Move out there first to move in here."
The real cost is the delta: the gap between old and new rent, charged every week for as long as you stay. Hence the boring sequence — stabilise income, move once, settle. One player named the loop:
"Rent comes out every Saturday, food costs money and if you don't save, you can't move to a better place or buy property. It's funny, but it's also a mini course in personal finance." — Toby, on X, 5 October 2026
Saving is the unlock condition for the rest of the game, including buying land and property.
The two addresses you cannot buy
The Ikoyi duplex and the Banana Island mansion are flagged move-in only. No purchase option opens, at any balance, ever. The only route in is social: be connected to a player living there and move in through the visit flow — the most expensive square metres in the game, gated on relationships instead of naira.
Most addresses open when you can pay. Move-in-only ones never do, so savings aimed at them sit idle.
The mirror image is guest capacity: the bigger the address, the more social life happens indoors instead of at clubs and rooftops. Adding friends interacts most with where you live.
For scale, as of 2026-10-06 01:28 UTC the official public stats endpoint reported 53,610 players online — a live counter that swings through the day.
Housing is not only in Lagos
The game has outgrown Lagos. Abuja has its own homes around Kubwa, Wuse and Maitama; Port Harcourt has its own around Rumuokoro and Woji. Intercity buses, night buses and flights connect them.

So "moving up" has two readings: a better address in Lagos, or a different city. Both cost money and both land on the same weekly bill — and your target workplace has to exist where you are moving.
What we could not verify
- Rent amounts and how many homes exist. Not published officially; the data endpoints need a login we do not use. Any wiki printing them is guessing.
- What missing a Saturday does, and at what hour it is charged. Arrears are tracked and the day is Saturday, but no public source describes the consequence or the clock time. Do not assume eviction, do not assume mercy.
If you are in arrears, the documented route is the one in the terms: message @shallyr in game.
The game runs on lagoslife.app, with lagoslife.eliysites.com as an official mirror. Other domains claiming to be the game — including lagoslife.com and lagos.life, parked domains for sale — are not the game, and there is no app to download. See where to play.
FAQ
Can I move house whenever I want? No public source describes a lockout. The documented restriction is that you cannot move while living at someone else's place.
How much is rent? We publish no figure, because no public official source exists for one. Compare weekly cost, commute, guest capacity and entry rule, then read it off your own bill.
What happens if I cannot pay on Saturday? Arrears are tracked, so they do not vanish, but no public source says what they trigger. Ask in game via the support handle in the terms.
How do I get into the Ikoyi and Banana Island homes? Through a player who lives there. Move-in only, never purchasable with cash.
