Danfo rides are the iconic way to move through virtual Lagos, and it is not the same game as the danfo browser game that came out first.
Lagos Life Danfo: Rides, Roads and the Other Lagos Game
Danfo is the yellow minibus ride at the centre of Lagos Life. The developer's own page opens with it, "Ride danfo, chop amala at Shitta, party at Quilox, survive NEPA", and in-game it is the ride your Sim falls back on before you can afford a car. One warning first: two different danfo games are circulating, and they are not the same product. The driving game came first, in late September 2026. Lagos Life launched on 1 October 2026, and its creator has said on record that the first game is what gave him the idea.
Quick answers
- In Lagos Life, danfo is a bus you ride, one line on the travel sheet next to trekking, keke, okada and a cab. It is not a driving minigame.
- Danfo is the fallback mode. With no car, the travel sheet defaults to the danfo rather than leaving you stuck.
- The separate danfo game is Lagos Run, at danfo.horpey.dev, built by Opeyemi Adeniran, a Berlin-based senior frontend engineer who posts on X as @eureka_seamless.
- Lagos Life was inspired by it. Its creator wrote: "Then I saw @eureka_seamless riding a danfo through Lagos, and it sparked an idea."
Official source: Lagos Life — the site's own meta description, re-checked 6 October 2026: "A Sims-style life game set in Lagos. Ride danfo, chop amala at Shitta, party at Quilox, survive NEPA — and make real friends. Play free in your browser."
If someone sends you a "danfo game" link, check what it does before you sign up. Lagos Run is a single-run driving game with a leaderboard and no account at all. Lagos Life is a shared city with jobs, rent, homes and other real players in it, and it needs an account to enter. Different developers, different sites. Our side-by-side page has the full breakdown.
The travel sheet, option by option
Getting around is one menu: pick a destination, pick a way to get there. These are the options in front of you as of 6 October 2026, read from the current game client. Balance changes ship without a public changelog, so treat this as a snapshot, not a rulebook.
| Ride | What it is | What the game says | Practical read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trek | On foot | "Free, but slow, and long walks tire you out." | Free, but a long walk grinds down your hygiene bar |
| Danfo | The yellow minibus, 🚐 | "Enter with your change!" | Cheapest paid ride, slowest one, most exposed to traffic |
| Keke | Motorcycle tricycle, 🛺 | "Three people on the back bench." | Mid-cost, decent pace |
| Okada | Motorcycle, 🏍️ | "Fast. Hold on tight." | Fastest, and priced accordingly |
| Cab | Private taxi, 🚕 | "AC and comfort." | The most expensive ride in the list |
| Your car | Anything in your garage, 🚙 | "You only pay for fuel." | Needs the car first |
The danfo is deliberately the cheapest way to cover real distance, which makes it the ride your first weeks are built on. It also quietly costs a little hygiene and a little fun every time you use it: cheap mobility in exchange for arriving slightly worse off.
The game is not shy about its sources. Its danfo entry links the Wikipedia article on danfo and a Vanguard Nigeria report on unpainted commercial vehicles, and the in-game copy notes the 2018 Lagos Transport Sector Reform Law that requires every danfo to be yellow with black stripes.

The city is one continuous map with coordinates, not a stack of separate screens, so distance is the real constraint: where you live decides how long every commute is. The map and locations guide covers what each district is for.
Go-slow is the danfo's signature problem
Traffic is a live variable with four plainly named states: Free road, Moving, Go-slow, Serious go-slow. The flavour lines are the best part. Go-slow reads "Hawkers are selling Gala and pure water through the window." Serious go-slow reads "Nobody is moving. Even the okadas are thinking."
The danfo sits at the top of the traffic exposure list, so it is the ride that gets stuck most often, and a stuck ride is game time and a needs bar you never get back. Two smaller events can land on a danfo trip too: an agbero at the park collecting a "levy", or a conductor who still has your change.
That makes this a planning problem, not a reaction problem: a commute started at peak traffic is a different length from the same trip started earlier, and since pay comes per shift while rent lands on a fixed weekday, the difference compounds. Get your bearings in the first-steps guide, then come back to route timing.
Where danfo fits into work, rent and other people
Danfo is infrastructure, not a hobby. It is how you reach the places where the game's systems live:
- Work. Shifts are at specific locations, and the jobs and promotions guide covers the loop your commute exists to serve.
- Rent. The rent cycle runs weekly, so transport habits are a weekly budget decision. See rent, due every Saturday.
- Night. Amala at Shitta, a club on the island, a beach day in Lekki. Travel takes a slice of every trip, so an evening out is priced in movement as well as naira.
- People. Seeing someone is a trip like any other, which is why visiting friends and chatting works the way it does.
Danfo also gates content. The walkable street in Yaba, Herbert Macaulay Way, stays locked until you ride in, and the game says so outright: "Take a danfo to Yaba to walk there." A bus ride buys admission to a whole sub-area.
Can you run a danfo fleet?
Yes, at a price. Owning buses is a business route, and the weekly ledger the game shows for a fleet is unusually honest about what eats the margin:
| Ledger line | What it is |
|---|---|
| Walk-in fares | Money from passengers who just got on |
| Park levy (10%) | Cut taken at the park |
| Fuel | The running cost |
| Breakdowns | Vehicles going off the road |
| Servicing | Scheduled repair |
| Income tax (PAYE) | The tax slice |
| Crew, dues, insurance, mechanic | The people and paperwork around the buses |
The game's own line on paydays: crews are paid every Saturday at 9 AM, walk-in fares pay out every evening from 6 PM. Larger buses need a driver character.
A fleet is a capital commitment with a payroll attached, and the game only nudges you toward owning one when you are ready. Work through the money routes and the side hustles first, and treat the bus as a mid-game decision.
The one thing that changes fares: this week's policy
Lagos Life runs one server-wide policy per week, drawn from a fixed set of five, and the banner on the home page tells every player which one is law right now. One of the five is a transport subsidy whose effect reads "Danfo and keke fares are half price". The others touch wages, food prices, nightlife and power cuts, so a transport week is a real discount rather than a rounding error.
As of 6 October 2026 that banner reads the owambe week, not the transport one. The discount is real but it rotates, and only the official header banner tells you which week you are in. The weekly events page tracks the current one.
Lagos Run or Lagos Life: which did you mean?
| Lagos Run | Lagos Life | |
|---|---|---|
| Site | danfo.horpey.dev | lagoslife.app |
| Made by | Opeyemi Adeniran, @eureka_seamless | Shalom Rayhamen, @Shalom_HeyEliy |
| Released | Late September 2026 | 1 October 2026 |
| Genre | Browser endless-runner, you drive the danfo | Multiplayer life sim, you ride in one |
| Sign-in | None; a username only for the leaderboard | Account required to enter the world |
| The loop | One run, passengers, go-slow, score | Work, rent, homes, businesses, friends |
| Scale | 20,000+ players in two days from public release, per him, reported by TechCabal | Million-player launch, per TechPoint |
The link between them is documented, not guessed. The Lagos Life creator posted: "I grew up playing The Sims 3 and always wondered what it would be like if the Sims lived in a world inspired by ours. Then I saw @eureka_seamless riding a danfo through Lagos, and it sparked an idea."
Both are free and both run in a browser, so if you only want to drive a danfo for fun, Lagos Run is the right destination. If you want rent, jobs and a city full of strangers, it is Lagos Life. If a third site claims to be either of them, the entry-page guide sorts the real domains from the parked ones, and the safety page covers the scam pattern around both games.
What we could not verify
Four danfo details that guide sites like to publish do not exist in any source we could check:
- Fare amounts. No fare table is published, and the in-game travel data is not readable without an account.
- Route and stop lists. No published map of danfo stops or drop-off points.
- Unlock levels. Beyond the danfo being the default, when each ride opens up is undocumented officially.
- Change history. No official changelog, patch note or guide page, and no robots.txt as of 6 October 2026.
Guide sites are publishing specific danfo fares, stop-by-stop routes and fleet prices for this game. None of it comes from the developer, and the numbers do not agree with each other. If a page hands you an exact fare list and weekly income math that both check out perfectly, treat it as decoration.
FAQ
Is there a stand-alone danfo game inside Lagos Life? No. Inside Lagos Life you ride the danfo through a travel menu. The game where you drive one is the separate project Lagos Run.
Do I have to pay anything to get around? The game is free in a browser with no app to download. In-game naira is virtual only: the official terms state it has no real-world value and cannot be cashed out or traded outside the game.
Why do fares feel different from one week to the next? One server-wide policy runs per week, and one of the five is a transport subsidy that halves danfo and keke fares. The banner on the official home page shows which one is in force this week.
The city will not load while I am travelling. That is server-side, not a danfo problem. The fixes are on the lag and loading page.
Where to start
Never played? Open the game through the official entry page, create an account, then read what Lagos Life actually is. Danfo will be your default ride when you arrive, and it will still be there after you read everything here.
